Tips: Top study places in Maastricht

With many posts about party and hangout locations in Maastricht, we thought that making one about places to study in Maastricht would be useful. From my experience, it is very easy to find places to study around Maastricht thanks to the many learning spaces, libraries, the SBE faculty and study-friendly cafes.

Libraries and study spaces

One of the most evident places to study is the library. There are two main libraries in Maastricht, the Inner city one and Randwijck. However, there are many learning spaces throughout the city. During this year, a booking system was put in place where you easily book slots. It is still unclear if it will still be in use next year.

Additionally, with the COVID-19 related restrictions loosening up, it will be possible to book group rooms at Tapijn or in the SBE building. As current students, we were able to use the group rooms only during this year’s first trimester. Hopefully, they will be available again. It is a great way to prepare group projects or even to study with friends.

Finally, Centre Ceramique is also a great place to study, meet with friends and see temporary exhibitions. The Stadsbibliotheek van Maastricht, or Maastricht City Library dates back to 1662 and it has been housed at various addresses in the city until it eventually found its current home in Centre Céramique.

Cafés

With cafés reopening, it will be possible to study there again. It is a great way to be in a more casual environment and be able to study. You will probably quickly realise while walking through Maastricht that there are many adequate places to choose from. Many students’ favorite ones includePreps, livin’ room, Coffee lovers (at the SSC), KOFFIE, etc. You could start with these ones and then explore others when you get to know Maastricht a bit better.

Outdoors

When the weather allows it, many students decide to study outside. It can be in the park or also in the SBE garden. As said earlier, there are many other available options that you will discover while studying in Maastricht. As a current student, I advise you to check out the different study spaces that allow you to change the study environment as much as you want.
